UNION REGIONALE DES SYNDICATS DES PROPRIETAIRES FORESTIERS DE POITOU-CHARENTES

It is an organization that groups syndicates of forest owners. It is chaired by elected owners. Its mission is to develop and guide sustainable forest management of private forests. This falls under 12 technicians and engineers, all throughout the region, with capacity to support 270,000 forest owners in Poitou-Charentes

SYNDICAT DES SYLVICULTEURS DU SUD-OUEST

It consists of more than 6000 members. It looks after the interests of forests owners against the abusive or discriminatory implementation of economic, financial, social and increasingly often environmental legislation and regulations. It proposes guidelines and reforms to promote independence of management and a dynamic forest economy both at local (Departments), national (Government of parliament) as well as European (through USSE) levels. Information to the members is distributed by means of the magazine “Forêt de Gascogne”. A lawyer is available to advice the members on environmental and urban tax, as well as to provide technical support. The lawyer is also in charge of representing the foresters to any public or private entity.

ASOCIACIÓN FORESTAL DE ASTURIAS

It was funded in 1988 with the dual aim of seeking unity amongst forest owners in order to provide them with legitimacy, and providing its members with the necessary services to manage their forests sustainably. The efforts of this Association focus on the eradication of the most important challenges facing the forest owners in the region, i.e. stop forest fires, bring forestry techniques closer to producers, provide forests with the necessary infrastructure; in short, to get our forests valued by society as one of its most prized possessions, without leaving out their economic potential.

ASOCIACIÓN FORESTAL DE CANTABRIA

It is a non-profit organization founded in 1986, it is a legal entity and it is governed by its own members, who elect the board in general assembly. It is responsible for providing its partners the following services: technical advice, information to businesses for the implementation of forestry activities, information on the status of timber and timber markets, processing grant applications and writing technical reports, developing budgets, discounts on the price of certified plants for aforestation (25%), discounts on the fees for the design of projects, subscriptions to Newsletters, informative talks and advice on tax reform and its implications for forestry.

FEDERACIÓN DE ASOCIACIONES FORESTALES DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN

It is a non-profit organization that represents, since 1990, the forest owners of Castile and Leon. It emerged as an initiative of the provincial forestry associations that have been working protecting the forests of Castile and Leon for over 20 years. It is composed of 9 forest owners associations, one for each province of Castile and Leon, and has over 8,000 members (representing about 50,000 individuals) and associated forest areas exceeding 500,000 hectares, i.e. about 25 of all private forests of Castile and Leon, which represents 60% of the forested area in this region.

ASOCIACIÓN FORESTAL DE GALICIA

It is a private, non-profit Association, founded in Santiago de Compostela in 1986. It brings together private forest owners and forest communities in associations of Galicia. Its objectives are to represent its members when dealing with public administration on forestry issues, contribute to forest policy development in line with the interests of its members, provide information and technical advice, promote forestry research, conduct training efforts designed to increase knowledge and management skills in forestry and promote initiatives that contribute to increase the added value of the resources generated by the forests of Galicia.

ASOCIACIÓN FORESTAL DE NAVARRA

It is a non-profit association with a team of trained professionals constantly evolving, which aims to meet the needs and interests of forest owners in all areas. Foresna Zurgaia was born in 1992 with the need to create an Association that brought together small forest owners and public entities that own forests. The objectives of this association are: to bring together forest owners, title holders and forest managers; to represent, defend and negotiate the interests and rights of forests owners of Navarre versus national and international Public Administrations, media and public opinion; to carry out studies, proposals and reports on forest issues, and their presentation and disclosure amongst members, entities, organizations and businesses; to advice and train its members to optimize forest management.

CONFEDERACIÓN DE FORESTALISTAS DEL PAÍS VASCO

The Confederación de Forestalistas del País Vasco groups forestry associations from the three historical territories of the Basque Autonomous Region- (CAV), and presently has about 5,200 members, representing almost half of the private forest land in Euskadi. Its objectives include: to represent its members, forests owners, in national and European forums of the CAV; to lead the process of certification of sustainable forest management (PEFC) in Euskadi; to provide tools to address the challenges of forest owners; to promote the use of wood as noble and renewable material; to spread the values of forestry activities to the Basque society and to promote genetic improvement of Basque forest stands. It publishes the informative magazine ”Euskadi Forestal-Euskadi Basogintza”. The confederation offers a continuing education programme and participates in European forestry and forest R & D projects. Finally, it is noteworthy that it provides civil liability insurance for its members.

CONFEDERAÇAO DOS AGRICULTORES DE PORTUGAL

The Confederation of Portuguese Farmers (CAP) was founded on 24 November 1975 from a spontaneous movement of farmers. It groups more than 300 organizations around the country, including federations, cellars, regional associations of the main agricultural areas of Portugal, specialized technical associations and cooperatives. It was formed to defend the interests of Portuguese agriculture in the country and abroad.

UNIAO DA FLORESTA MEDITERRANICA

Union of Farmer Organizations for the development of Charneca, it was founded in December 1989, and its task was the social intervention of the town councils south of the Tajo included in the area commonly known as “Charneca”. With the passing of time and the adhesion of new forestry associations it came to be the Union of Mediterranean Forests. Currently UNAC represents the interests of the Portuguese Mediterranean forests producers along with national and European institutions, through a strategy of intervention of a technical-political nature. It accompanies and analyzes all processes and initiatives of relevance and interests to its partners, as is the case of rural, forestry, environmental and tax policies.

Portugal Forest Association is a movement of non-profit national associations founded in 1992 with the aim of actively supporting the Management, protection and associations in the private sector and community forest. Currently it has 31 member organizations of Forest Owners in the area of sub-regional action, which represents technical support and more than 12,000 forest owners.

FOREST OWNERS ASSOCIATION GREECE

The Forest Owners Association of Greece (FOA), founded in 1926, aims to safeguard private forest ownership, guide production to markets and promote national tree species and traditional methods of forest culture according to the principle of sustainability. FOA has 100 members with only 20 employed in the forestry sector exclusively.
