The European forest
is in its vast majority privately owned, and has belonged
to families for many generations. The USSE was created
in 1989 as a result of the initiative shown by private
forest owner organisations from Galicia, Basque Country,
Aquitaine, Castilla and Leon and Catalonia.
Nowadays it unites regional and national associations
from :
- Portugal,
- Galicia (Spain),
- Asturias (Spain),
- Cantabria (Spain),
- Castilla and Leon (Spain),
- Basque Country (Spain),
- Navarre (Spain),
- Madrid (Spain),
- Aquitaine (France),
- Poitou Charentes (France).

The organisation also maintains close-knit relationships
with forest owners associations from Italy.
